What is Massage?
Massage is the oldest and the most powerful form of healing, the Mother of all Hands-On therapies.
Touch is fundamental for our physical and mental well-being, yet the value of this vital form of therapy is still underestimated.
When used skillfully, massage not only takes away pain, stiffness, and swelling, but also alleviates emotional and mental tension, restoring our energy before we burn out and become prone to stress and disease.
In order for a body to function, two things have to be happening constantly: the delivery of nutrients to the trillions of cells and the elimination of waste products from them. By relaxing tissues and dilating blood vessels, massage restores the flow of life-giving blood and cleansing lymph throughout the body.
As a result, many good things start to happen. "Fatigue" products like lactic acid are eliminated from muscles and joints. Muscle tone is improved because of better nutrient delivery. Skin becomes softer and smoother. The nervous system calms down. The body feels more limber and supple. Any inflammation or swelling can go down dramatically.
For people who are forced to remain inactive because of injury, illness or age, massage can be a mild form of exercise.
